In this leap year week our practice is about individual social responsibility (ISR), a part of building a resilient and sustainable family, community and lifestyle.
We asked a group of CSR (corporate social responsibility) folks from the academic, corporate and non-profit worlds to define what individual social responsibility is about. Let us know if you agree.
This was their consensus:
- Committing acts of charity and philanthropy (Giving cash, time, or donate goods, office equipment, or other items to a local charity).
- Working for communities where you have material interest by campaigning, volunteering or becoming an activist that supports issues affecting your community.
- Being ethical, transparent and honest in one’s outward dealings.
Because ISR is at the roots of CSR, and a corporation is comprised of individuals, it determines the social responsibility culture it follows. We all have the power to make an impact. We can change the culture we live and work in, one person at a time.
Beyond “doing well by doing good” you will meet some great people and have lots of fun!
We are challenging you to take part in an adoption of a nonprofit. We have so many great nonprofits in the world and many of them focus on improving our cultures and the environment.
Choose a non-profit you are passionate about from one of the directories listed below. This is your chance to give back and support one of these deserving organizations. You can participate by donating your time, making a financial or in-kind contribution, or reaching out to a nonprofit to discuss another way to help nurture their success.
